Today, our guest blogger is Mr. Ken Myers. A little about Mr. Myers: Ken Myers is the founder of http://www.longhornleads.com/ & has learned over the years the importance of focusing on what the customer is looking for and literally serving it to them. He doesn’t try to create a need, instead he tries to satisfy the existing demand for information on products and services.
Things have been very hectic at my house as of late. My dear mother has gone through two major surgeries at seventy-seven and has gone her whole life being practically surgery free. She also is very rarely ill so this is a huge event in all of our lives. Not only is this going on but things have not been going great with my only boy. He is twenty years old and he got himself into some trouble about a year ago. We spent several months in court and he is now on probation with visits to his probation officer once a month. Needless to say this has been heart breaking.
I am so thankful that I know that our precious heavenly Father is in charge of this world of ours and that, “… we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.” Romans 8:28 (NIV) Because without this knowledge that has been engrained in my heart and mind I have felt at times that I would not make it through another day in these past few months. The word of God and prayer have empowered me to keep going. Trusting in the Lord and “fixing our (my)eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith. For the joy set before him he endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.” Hebrews 12:2 (NIV)
The word of God is the greatest motivator that I know. I have often wondered what people do that do not know the Lord when times get rough in their lives. Where does their comfort come from? When my son began to go outside of the boundaries of what we had taught him all his life I was absolutely terrified and filled with fear. That fear consumed me and my emotions were reeling every time he walked out the door. When I heard a siren my heart would literally hurt and I felt as if I could not breathe. I was praying and reading the word of God but I could not make any sense out of what was going on. I realized through this experience (that my Lord allowed)it seemed while everything was within my control I trusted the Lord but when things were outside of my ability to control I actually did not really trust Him at all.
Our God is so awesome and He loves us so much that He allows these things to come into our lives to reveal to us our true hearts, not to Him, but to ourselves. He knew what I needed and He set up the circumstances perfectly to do a work in my life and in my son’s as well. He had to show me where I lacked faith because I could not see. It did not happen overnight, the Lord and I spent many tearful nights together. I realized, just as my dear Mother has been under the surgeons hands to repair her heart so have I. My precious Lord opened up my heart and it was very painful but He repaired it and made it whole again, better than before! And all the way through the procedure He was right by my side, comforting and consoling. He taught me to lay my son down before His throne and surrender him to the one who can actually change hearts. I was completely helpless and in terror and He knew the only way to help me was to open up and reveal the truth about the condition of my heart to me. What a blessed Savior!
The Lord also allowed my son (His really) to get caught early on in his sin to do great works in his life. He has trouble with structure, self control, work, and perseverance. He has been in and out of work and school since he graduated high school which was truly an act of God on its own, as the last two years of high school we had to fight to keep him going. But our God always hears the prayers of His children and works in mysteriously beautiful ways. There were so many times as I was down on my knees that He had to reveal to me that this was as much for me as it was for my son. As painful as it is when you are going through these trials the joy is just as great when you reach the other side. The strength that you come out of the trial with is a feeling you have never known. When you think you have it all together and the Lord reveals to you through His holy word and His Spirit where you are falling short it is nothing short of miraculous.
I have sat and watched with wonder what the Lord is doing in my son’s life. The terms of probation state that he do thirty hours of community service, take a defensive driving course, work or go to college full time, pay his fees, take drug classes, and get tested for drugs on a regular basis. I had been praying that the Lord would be self control and perseverance through my son and that “I pray that out of his glorious riches he may strengthen you (my son) with power through his Spirit in your inner being,…” Ephesians 3:16 (NIV) Since I did not have the leverage with my son to produce these traits the Lord saw fit to get the courts to enforce it. I prayed and still praythat He would not allow the world and the laws of this world to punish my son but that He would humble my son’s heart before Him. “Humble yourselves, therefore, under God’s mighty hand, that he may lift you up in due time.” 1 Peter 5:6 (NIV) I do not want to see my son hardened by the world but instead that, “I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit in you; I will remove from you your heart of stone and give you a heart of flesh.” Ezekiel 36:26 (NIV)
Our heavenly Father is not out to punish us, what he wants for us is to “grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.” 2 Peter 3:18 (NIV) He always wants what is best for us and He loves us so very much. Sometimes I sit in disbelief at how very much He loves us. This is clearly seen in the scriptures. “4 “But God, being rich in mercy, because of His great love with which He loved us, 5 even when we were dead in our transgressions, made us alive together with Christ (by grace you have been saved), 6 and raised us up with Him, and seated us with Him in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus, 7 so that in the ages to come He might show the surpassing riches of His grace in kindness toward us in Christ Jesus.” Ephesians 2:4-7 (NAS) Hallelujah!
The Lord spoke the world into being, He is the word and came down in the flesh to save us which is stated so beautifully in the scriptures in John chapter one. “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning. Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made. In him was life, and that life was the light of all mankind. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it. John 1:1-5 (NIV) And if we really believe this to be true why do we doubt? I do not know, but we do, but His love never fails. He never leaves us or forsakes us and no one can snatch us out of the Fathers hand.
The word of God is powerful; I have learned to pray the word over all the situations that arise in my life. The prayer the Lord has given me to pray over my family as of late is one that Paul prayed for the Ephesian believers. “For this reason I too, having heard of the faith in the Lord Jesus which exists among you and your love for all the saints, do not cease giving thanks for you, while making mention of you in my prayers; that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give to you a spirit of wisdom and of revelation in the knowledge of Him. I pray that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened, so that you will know what is the hope of His calling, what are the riches of the glory of His inheritance in the saints, and what is the surpassing greatness of His power toward us who believe. These are in accordance with the working of the strength of His mightwhich He brought about in Christ, when He raised Him from the dead and seated Him at His right hand in the heavenly places, far above all rule and authority and power and dominion, and every name that is named, not only in this age but also in the one to come. And He put all things in subjection under His feet, and gave Him as head over all things to the church, which is His body, the fullness of Him who fills all in all.” Ephesians 1:15-23 (NAS)
The word of God changes lives, He listens to our prayers, and there is no greater motivation that you can find in this world. To be a child of the King and to be saved by His grace upon grace is a precious gift that is offered to all but accepted by few. I praise God that He has saved me and works miracles every day in my life. He inhabits the praise of His people and He is just waiting for you to ask Him. “Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives; the one who seeks finds; and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened.Which of you, if your son asks for bread, will give him a stone? Or if he asks for a fish, will give him a snake? If you, then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give good gifts to those who ask Him!” Matthew 7:7-11 (NIV)
