The weekend was amazing for me! I’ve been off work for the past 3 days and I had the opportunity to get some well needed rest and relaxation. I also had the opportunity to watch a little television. I know this sounds crazy, but I can go for weeks without watching TV. On Friday, while twisting my hair, I found myself watching the movie Burlesque. Are you familiar with the movie? I remember seeing the previews and thinking that I probably wouldn’t be interested in seeing the movie. I am more of a love story/romance type of girl. I also enjoy comedies and action. I’m not sure what category Burlesque would fall in, but it kept my attention and I really enjoyed the movie. The movie was more along the lines of being a musical. Lots of singing and performances involved. For those of you who haven’t seen the movie, it is about Christina Aguilera relocating from a small town to Hollywood and her efforts towards fame. She along with Cher were the main characters.
One take away that I wanted to share with you was Ms. Aguilera’s determination. She relocated to California with very little money in her pocket. All she had was a dream and a plan. She didn’t have any family, but she had determination. As she searched around for a job, she came across a club owned by Cher, called Burlesque. She wandered in the club and instantly had a deja vu moment. She witnessed her fantasy on stage. Christina wanted to sing and dance. She inquired about becoming one of the dance girls, but was dismissed and told they were not hiring. But she didn’t take “NO” for an answer! When she wasn’t given an opportunity to work as a dance girl, she went to the bar and got a job as a waitress. She learned the dance routines and waited till the time was right! She auditioned, got her dream job and ultimately became the star of the club!
In life, we sometimes get discouraged when things don’t go our way. We instantly give up on our hopes and dreams, due to life disruptions, lack of money or just fear. Christina didn’t let fear of the unknown, rejection, or difficulties interfere with her dreams. She worked her way up until she finally got what she wanted. She stayed focused on her goals and she didn’t stop until those goals were achieved. I want to encourage you to never let anything or anyone interfere with you succeeding. Although tough times may come, don’t give up! What’s in the plan will be, regardless of the challenges. Challenges can be a test of your patience, but if you want it bad enough, you will overcome any obstacle. Continue moving full speed ahead and it will all work out for your good.
Thought of the day: Clichés: “What doesn’t kill you will only make you stronger.” “If it is to be, it is up to me!” LOL! All in all, don’t give up, no matter what! Anything that’s worth having is worth the effort! HAVE A MAGNIFICENT MONDAY!! And in your spare time, check out the movie!
